As a form of researching into customer expectations and my target audiences cinema habits I created a questionnaire that i then uploaded to survey monkey:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/MySurvey_EditorFull.aspx?sm=sROBANA0FrTI86i7J59s72hZYYdfUWL0rpNAfhltJT0%3d
I did manage to get some response that was helpful in my pre-production planning that showed:

responses: How
would you prefer a title opening sequence?
grabs the attention of the audience
-
Telling a story, with the names integrated into
the visuals.
-
Not very long, needs to have a catchy soundtrack
and to eye catching
-
I would prefer an opening scene to immediately
grab my attention and to be eye-catching. I would prefer it to be clear about
the story line, rather than vague.
-
I like to get straight in to the story - don't
like it when the beginning is really long, then you get all the titles.
-
To be an introduction of the film with music in
the background
From doing this research I now know that:
-
My target audience will be late-teenagers similar to
myself.
-
Most of my target audience said that they go to the
cinema for the enjoyment of watching a film and so therefore as I found out
from the responses to question 9 and 10, that in order to for fill the
enjoyment of going to the cinema to watch a film for my target audience, I need
to make my opening title sequence to have very atmospheric sounds as well as
emotive visuals whilst introducing the main character in the film.
Explanation for my choice of genre: *
Although my questionnaire results showed that the most popular genres
were Comedy and Romantic Comedy, the people who answered this survey were
mostly female teenagers who I know all favour these genres. Therefore when
thinking about what genre to choose for my media opening titles, I feel that
the information I have collected about genre choice is slightly bias and
doesn’t represent the whole of the teenage populations genre preference. Therefore from looking at sales figure for
teenage targeted films – I have found that Thriller films are the most grossing
out of all the genres and so this is the reason that I have decided to produce
titles for a thriller film.
